Everyone wants a better life. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of how to get this better life. Organization is one such tool that will enable a better life, right now.
Organization has been described by best seller Julie Morgenstern in her book Organizing from the Inside Out as the
process by which we create environments that enable us to live, work and relax exactly as we want to. When we are organized, out homes, offices and schedules reflect and encourage who we are, what we want, and where we are going.
Over the past 3 years, of my conscious effort of self-improvement, I have been slowly getting organized. Each little change, each little step, each device or thing that gets a home, makes me feel more comfortable. I was not aware of what or why this was working, but knew it was. The Buddhist teaching on attachment and clinging fueled my fire for organization. The more organized I was becoming, the more I saw what was out of place, and what I really needed and what was junk. I no longer needed 3000 shirts, just in case. I kept the shirts I wore and donated the shirts that no longer fit me or I did not wear. The result was more cupboard space and less crammed and crushed shirts.
I repeated process through the rest of my bedroom. I realized my room was full of things that were no longer me. My walls had photos and posters of things that had no memories or involvement behind them. My shelves were full of mementos simply collecting dust. Everywhere had something. Bit by bit I’ve slowly got my room organized, and each step of the way has made my room more peaceful. My room is now a very basic, but very peaceful place. Sleeping in a peaceful room makes every day that much stronger;- it’s starting as well as it can. I even believe my sleeping has become deeper and more relaxed as a result.
Organization is a long process from start to finish, but each step along the way, each small task will be a major reward in itself. I invite you to look around your current room, and really see what is there. (quote via artist@stumbleupon.com)
