When we enter into our Emotions, we grow and reinforce them. By this, we bind our happiness to fleeting moments, and in the case of negative emotions, we self-inflict pain.
Entering into emotions turns, our mental space is like a small pond. A negative emotion, or contamination turns the whole pond toxic. Through Meditation and Observation, our mental space, or pond becomes larger. The same small contamination in a large pond, has no negative effect; a large pond can dilute and detoxify the contamination. Small contaminations, in a large pond develop a realization that, this is not me, this is part of me but not all.
Seeing outside of the emotion we begin to understand that this emotion will not last. We begin within ourselves to see impermanence, and the grip loosens. We begin really understanding that ‘this too will pass’. As this develops, even in the midst of negative emotions, at a deep level we remain happy and peaceful.
We watch the emotion unfold in our body and mind, and let it flow. Emotions turn into waves that come and go, with the question of observation becoming how well can you surf. (photo)
