Being present in the digital age can be a hard task. There are many distractions and alarms fighting against the peaceful nature of consciousness. Two weeks ago, I took steps and converted my phone into a mindfulness reminder.
In this time, my attitude towards my phone, the callers and all it’s bells and whistles has changed dramatically. When the phone rings, regardless of the caller, I take a peaceful breath, smile and answer calmly. Some great conversations have come about from this peaceful attitude. When looking at my phone, I smile; I see a pray wheel. When my alarm wakes me up, it’s now a loving, warm chant.
If you would like to convert your phone into a tool of mindfulness, below are the tools:-
Alarms become Om Mani Padme Hum Chant
Phone calls become Mindfulness Chimes
The background becomes a Pray Wheel
Update: Here’s a larger Prayer Wheel. (Prayer Wheels from dharma-haven.org)
Enjoy, and may they bring you the peace and happiness they’ve brought to me.

“There is not a single aspect of the eighty-four thousand sections of the Buddha’s teachings which is not contained in Avalokiteshvara’s six syllable mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” is Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s summary.
“Containing all the secrets to the universe; life, death, rebirth. Enlightenment in a single phrase” is how Alan Watts describes the inner beauty contained within the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum .
I’ve been making my own investigations into this wonderful mantra for the past previous months, chanting, reading, and listening. The more you hear, speak and see it, the more it opens up. Initally you feel slightly awakard, then a surface level of peace and joy is offered. From here, you get into the rhtymn of it, and you no longer think about it; you’re meditating in the words, allowing them to flow. It almost becomes as if they are manifesting you, not you manifesting them.
Om Mani Padme Hum contains every Buddhist teaching inside of it. It is the one that contains the all; a signs of Pure Dharma. Below are two parts of this
detailed teaching.
(om)Om Generosity
Ma Moral conduct
Ni Patience
Pad Diligence
Me Meditative stabilization
Hum Discriminating awareness
(Pad)Om Ignorance is cleansed.
Ma And the defilements of hatred,
Ni Avarice,
Pad Attachment,
Me Jealousy,
Hum And pride are purified.
Here is a few of my favorite Dharmacasts. These Dharmacasts range from Guided Meditations, Zen/Buddhist philosophies, Meditation Techniques/timers, and more. These talks are profound, yet accessible teachings; like Dharma itself. I also use the lists to invite and develop interest in others to the wonder of Dharma.
After coming back from a Vipassana retreat, I found I lacked a good 1 hour timer. I also found that I didn’t have any with S.N. Goenka’s chant at the end. I’ve found his chant and complied a one hour MP3, especially for old Vipassana students. There’s even 5 minutes of metta meditation time at the end.
The format = 30 seconds in 1 chime, silence for allocated time, chant by S.N. Goenka, 5 minutes metta meditation, 3 chimes.
Below are the 4 Vipassana Meditation Timers. For non-Vipassana based mp3 meditation timers
30 Minute Vipassana Timer
40 Minute Vipassana Timer
50 Minute Vipassana Timer
1 Hour Vipassana Timer, Old students recommended

For a while I’ve been reading and hearing about the joy of mantras. Mantras such as Om Mani Padme Hum have, and continue to reached a new level of acceptance in western community.
The Mantra is repeated a few times in the new movie Children of Men(If you’re going to watch the movie, it’s in the car scene).
Here’s a direct link to a MP3 for Om mani padme hum, give it a try, you might like it!
Update:- Just found another Om Mani Padme Hum. The Techo Squirrels have a track called Om Mani. The lead singer, Lisa has a voice with such depth and range, it’s almost made for Sanskrit.
